LOCATION: The King Cemetery is located south of Delta, on
the east side of State Route 109, a few rods south of the intersection
with county road F. (NE 1/4 Sec 24, T7N, R7E.):
HISTORY: John King of Ireland purchased acreage south of the present day Delta in 1834. The King family settled on the land in 1835 and by 1839, possibly earlier, they set aside a small plot to be used as a burial ground. The King farm served as a stop on the undergound railroad for several years. In 1984 the cemetery was found in very poor condition. Eroded, broken and missing pieces of tombstones makes recording inscriptions difficult and incomplete. The cemetery probably contains unmarked graves. |
